According to Approved Document K (Protection from falling, collision and impact) and BS 8300 (Design of buildings for disabled people), glass in critical locations must include visible markings at two key height bands:
- Lower Band: Between 850mm and 1000mm from floor level
- Upper Band: Between 1400mm and 1600mm from floor level
These bands must be clearly visible from both sides of the glazing.
Manifestation can take many forms, including:
- Frosted or etched dots, squares, or lines
- Solid or broken bands
- Logos or decorative designs
- Opaque or translucent film
What’s most important is that the manifestation contrasts with the background in all lighting conditions and is permanent or durable.
